Miniature Painting at Soonercon
Whether you’re a veteran painter or never picked up a brush, there’s something for everyone with miniature figure painting at Soonercon! Enjoy free painting events in the game room, enter the coveted miniature painting competition, or attend a workshop to level up your skills.

Miniatures Painting Workshops
New to miniature painting? Or want to pick up some fresh tips and skills? New this year, Soonercon is offering miniature painting workshops taught by veteran painters.
Due to space limitations and materials, these workshops have an additional fee.
Course descriptions and registration info coming spring 2023.
Miniatures Painting Competition
Prize Categories:
- Small Miniature – 32mm base or smaller
- Large Miniature – 40mm base or larger
- Mecha/Vehicle – Any vehicle, mech, or mechanical construct.
- Open – This category is to catch any model that doesn’t fit in the first three. This includes busts and dioramas.
- Best in Show – This award is given to the contestant who exhibits unparalleled excellence in painting across all judging criteria, across all competitor categories in the competition. The winner of the Best in Show award is the recipient of the competition grand prize (one prize).
Judging/Scoring Criteria:
- Brush Control (accuracy of brush strokes and paint application)
- Color Palette (appropriate use of colors for style of miniature you have entered)
- Use of Advanced Techniques (blending, basing, conversion, etc.)
Registration Requirements:
Bring your contest entries to the Art Show and ask for the signup sheet.
- All participants must have a Soonercon membership.
- All participants will select a category for each piece when entering the competition.
- Participants will be allowed to enter one piece per category (small, large, mecha, and open).
- All participants must have their pieces registered and on display in the Art Show before Saturday, July 1st at 5 p.m.
- Judging will take place Saturday evening.
- All participants must pick up their miniatures from the Art Show before 2 p.m. Sunday, July 2nd.

Paint and Take
Take a seat, grab a blank miniature figure and brush, and begin painting. You can take your mini home with you for free!
Speed Paint Competition
In our Speed Paint Competition, competitors each have 45 minutes to complete a figure provided. How detailed can you get? Winners can move on to further competition with prizes awarded in the final event Saturday.
