Talent Show
The Soonercon Talent Show is a place where creativity and entertainment take the stage for an evening of fun for all ages! Showcase your best skits, dances, magic, comedy, and more for the chance to win fantastic prizes and share with the Soonercon community your talents.
Take a look at the rules below and sign up to enter. We welcome a variety of skills and performances but space is limited!
Talent Show will take place the evening of Friday, June 19, 2026.
Talent may be any type of entertainment presentation as long as it does not create any danger or injury to either the contestant or anyone else. (Skits, monologues, K-pop or Idol dances, etc.) Solo singing acts should sign up for the Karaoke Contest. Please be aware of the content of your talent choice. The judges will consider the contents of talent presentations when scoring them. Talents will be scored on entertainment value and how it fits into the Soonercon Culture. Talents should be entertaining, hold attention, and be pop-culture focused.
Awards and prizes won as a group will be issued to the group (one award/prize). By entering the contest as a group, participants acknowledge this and will work out amongst themselves who retains the physical award and any division of prizes.
Prizes:
First Place: $250 and 2 weekend passes for Soonercon 35
Second Place: $150 and 2 weekend passes for Soonercon 35
The Talent Show will permit a maximum of seven (7) entrants or groups due to time constraints. This may change based on registration responses.
All participants must be members of Soonercon. Contestants thirteen (13) years of age and older may enter the Talent Show.
All participants in the Talent Show must complete and return a contest registration form by 11:59 pm on Friday, June 5, 2026, regardless of division, or until all contestant slots are filled, whichever happens first. Entries will not be accepted after this date for the current year’s contest.
Participants may design their own performance, but must adhere to the following requirements:
- All talents must be appropriate for all ages. Talent presentations that contain racial slurs, vulgarity, obscene or insulting language should be avoided. Culture sensitivity is a must. All talents should adhere to all Soonercon Rules & Policies. Any costume or talent which Staff determines to be in violation of the criteria set forth herein will be rejected as ineligible and disqualified from the Contest.
- Talent presentation is limited to five (5) minutes in length. Prop setup and tear down time is limited to three (3) minutes total. There is no restriction on the number of people who may be involved in the talent.
- Soonercon may be able to provide up to two (2) chairs, if requested in advance. Anything else must be supplied by the Participant and be able to be set on stage and removed quickly without Staff help. Items that can litter the stage, such as glitter or confetti or anything that will make the stage slippery, are prohibited.
- A hand-held, live microphone may be permitted for certain performances (e.g. singing or comedy) conditional on having provided a similar performance observed by Soonercon. Other types of microphones are not available. For other performance types, Participant(s) should use pre-recorded dialogue if the performance requires it (e.g., for dramatic performances, K-pop or Idol dances, and skits). It will not be possible for the audience to hear the Participant talk from stage without a microphone and this might affect Contestant’s scoring.
- Soonercon can only accept a single sound file, which Soonercon will start to play when Participant comes on stage and which will continue until the track ends or Participant exits the stage. Soonercon reserves the right to reject poor quality tracks. All audio tracks must be edited to fit the time allotted. Soonercon staff cannot be responsible for jumping to time stamps in a track. All music and audio must be submitted no later than two weeks prior to the contest (Friday, June 5, 2026) to costuming@soonercon.com. All music and audio should be in MP3 or MP4 format.
- Energetic performances (gymnastics or martial arts displays) may require extra checks on the skills of the performers, and Soonercon reserves the right to interrupt performances for safety reasons.
- Cosplays do not have to be handmade for this competition and can be purchased. All stage costumes or cosplay should provide enough clothing coverage to not be considered full nudity and must not contain material that is illegal, or racially or morally offensive or endorse any form of hate or hate group, each as determined by Soonercon in its sole discretion.
- No costume or performance may include harmful or potentially harmful materials. Animals are prohibited in your talent. You may not use strobe lights or fire of any kind (including cigarettes, flames, or fireworks), water, real food (clean empty boxes and containers are allowed), liquids (including paint), glitter, silly string, or any substance that can be fired, launched, or dripped in your talent presentation.
